Presidential declaration
On the 5th of December 2018, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the first Friday of each new month as a national clean-up day. The National Clean-Up Day exercise which is in the spirit of creating a clean, safe, and healthy environment states that it is the duty of every individual across the country to clean their surrounding areas be it places of work, education, religion, recreational and residential premises to manage waste management in the country. It shall be undertaken from 0800hrs -1000hrs on the first Friday of each calendar month and every stakeholder is expected to play a pivotal and exemplary role in this commitment.
Monthly clean-up days
Following the Presidential Declaration by His Excellency, Cde. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) is calling on all Zimbabweans to take an active role in transforming our nation into a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
A Shared Responsibility for a Sustainable FutureIn alignment with Section 73 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which guarantees the right to a healthy environment, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) urges all stakeholders, including private and public entities, religious and educational institutions, and every individual citizen, to wholeheartedly embrace the National Clean-Up Day. Held every first Friday of the month from 08:00 hrs to 10:00 hrs, this initiative is more than just a monthly exercise; it is a collective commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship. As we strive toward an empowered society and a sustainable economy by 2030, we must move beyond a “throwaway culture” and adopt a “take-make-reuse” model. EMA calls upon you to lead by example: clean your surroundings, provide adequate waste bins, and ensure that no place and no one is left behind in our journey to keep Zimbabwe clean.
